If you are visiting the Mesa/Phoenix area for spring training and want to take in some interesting baseball history, you should visit the Arizona Spring Training Experience and Cactus League Hall of Fame’s new free exhibit at The Gallery at Scottsdale Civic Center Library. There is some cool Cubs memorabilia, including autographed bats and balls, Hall of Famer Greg Maddux autographed jersey, Hall of Famer Ron Santo autographed ticket from the last game ever played at Old Hohokam Park in 1996, and many other Cubs related items! There are also rare items from the Seattle Pilots, Houston Colt 45’s, as well as memorabilia from all Cactus League teams.
I’m very proud of the exhibit and the new website that I designed for the AZSTE. Please check out the website and you’ll get a better idea of what it’s all about. 2017 marks the ninth year of the AZ Spring Training Experience and our fourth induction class into the Cactus League Hall of Fame. This year we are excited to announce the first former players to be inducted; Ernie Banks, Larry Doby, Monte Irvin, and Willie Mays, four outstanding Major League players who also helped blaze the trail of integration in baseball, as well as spring training in Arizona.
The Arizona Spring Training Experience and Cactus League Hall of Fame is non-profit, so we would love your support! Even if it’s just by liking us on Facebook, or following us on Twitter. We have new accounts for both Facebook and Twitter so please help us build a following!! You can also have your photo taken (like the one above of me and Ernie Banks) at our exhibit at Scottsdale Civic Center Library. Both the photo and exhibit are free!
Here are John Antonoff’s Cubs photos from yesterday. Which because of the weekend rain in Mesa, ended up being the first Cubs full-squad workout of the spring. Enjoy!
