A lot of hugging and handshakes

The Cubs won games on Sunday and Monday, beating the Mariners 7 – 3, then the Angels 9 – 4, both games played at Sloan Park. The Cubs also lost a split-squad game to the Athletics 5 – 2 at Hohokam Stadium last night.

Yesterday’s game vs the Angels at Sloan brought the return of former Cubs Skipper, now Angels Manager, Joe Maddon. Since the Cubs and Angels don’t play in the regular season, there was a lot of hugging and handshakes going around. The return of Maddon was heavily chronicled online, here, here, and here. Also in tow with the Joe show, were Tommy La Sella, former Cubs prospect Arismendy Alcantara, third-base coach Brian Butterfield, and former Cubs Strength and Conditioning Coordinator Tim Buss. Bussy as he was known with the Cubs, brought out the lineup for Maddon, in typical Bussy attire.

We also saw some familiar faces when the Mariners came to Sloan on Sunday, including former Cubs pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. and former Cubs prospect Daniel Vogelbach. Voggy hit 30 dingers for the Mariners last year, but will likely need to bring up his .208 average to see significant playing time for Seattle.
