Here are some photos by John Antonoff from yesterday’s Cubs 4-3 victory over the Athletics in the Sloan Park spring opener. The Cubs played a split-squad yesterday, and lost the other contest to the Giants 8-6 in Scottsdale.
You will get a chance to see some of the Cubs minor-league talent in these early spring games as Joe Maddon eases his stars into playing time. Charcer Burks an up-and-coming minor league outfielder ended up hitting a 7th inning solo HR which proved to be the winning run against the A’s. A crowd of 14,929 were on hand for the Sloan opener.
The Cubs used nine pitchers against the A’s, none going more than 1.2 innings.
The Cubs take on their 2016 World Series opponent the Cleveland Indians today at Sloan Park.
