Yesterday just felt like the perfect Cubs spring training day, abundant sunshine, a packed house at Sloan – 15,481, a mysterious bouncy house showing up, fans singing happy Birthday to Cubs Third Base Coach Brian Butterfield, Jon Lester razor sharp, HR’s by the Slim Schwarb and rising prospect David Bote, a 6-1 Cubs W followed by Go Cubs Go! Baseball nirvana in Mesa.
With the 6-1 victory over the Angels, the Cubs spring record is 11-2-2 and they still have not lost this spring at Sloan Park! As I say all the time, spring training records don’t mean a thing, but this is waaaaay more fun than losing! This Cubs 2018 camp feels loose, fun, focused and energized. I hope they take this same vibe and focus right into the regular season.
This spring has been as enjoyable as any I’ve experienced over my time as the Cubs spring PA Announcer. It’s as if I just kept getting to go on spring break every March after my college days finished. Switch Lake Havasu for Mesa and baseball instead of the beach, but the party atmosphere remains. Growing up is overrated!
The Cubs host the White Sox today at Sloan Park. As always, enjoy the fantastic photos by our John Antonoff! Go Cubs!
