SoCal Homestand

Looking at an amazingly beautiful weekend here in Mesa with lots of sun and a high temp of 80 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. Starting today the Cubs have three home games in a row at Hohokam all against teams from Southern California. Today it’s the Padres, tomorrow the Dodgers. and Monday it’s the Angels. Today’s game should be interesting with the 4 and 5 starting pitching slots being so competitive, as youngster Andrew Cashner get’s the start and a chance to show his stuff.

In Surprise yesterday Tyler Colvin had a nice game in his first spring start at first base, going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and an HR. The Cubs couldn’t hold a 4-0 lead however losing to Kansas City 5-4. Losing a lead like this would be hard to take in the regular season but in spring training you have to consider who was actually pitching and playing in the game when the lead was lost. In this case it was John Gaub who is not likely to be with the Cubs when the season opens, especially after yesterday when he allowed 4 runs in 1/3 of an inning while walking 3 batters and giving up an HR.

I’ll have a full report on today’s game this afternoon.
