Wet Fitch Final

wet Ftich

Today is the final day ever for the Cubs at Fitch Park, at least for the big boys. The minor league Cubs will be training there for the next month or so. The final day is a wet one, so no work on the fields, only some hitting in the batting cages. The Cubs will be moving up the street to Hohokam Stadium today. The team will have intrasquad games at Hoho tomorrow and Friday, before starting the Cactus League season on Saturday against the Angels in Tempe. According to Carrie Muskat, tomorrow’s game will take place at 1 PM, and it’s open to the public.

Here are the lineups for tomorrow’s contest. White lineup: CF DeJesus, SS Castro, 1B Rizzo, LF Soriano, RF Schierholtz, C Navarro, 3B Stewart, 2B Barney, DH Hairston. Blue lineup: 2B Valbuena, CF Sappelt, C Castillo, 1B B.Nelson, LF Soler, SS Baez, 3B Lake, RF BJax, DH Bogusevic. Like Manager Dale Sveum and most Cubs fans, I’m very interested to see hot prospects Javier Baez and Jorge Soler in game action.

There have been no Cubs photos on the blog over the past couple days, because I have been shooting video instead. Since this is the final spring at Fitch for the Cubs, I wanted to document it with moving pictures. I’ll post some of that video tomorrow morning, or maybe tonight if I am finished with the editing. Fitch Park really has been one of my favorite places to view the Cubs over the years. The access is incredible. In many places you can watch practice literally five to ten feet from the players. The players also have to walk or jog past you as they move from field to field. In fact the access is probably too close in some areas, like the men’s two urinal bathroom in the center building of the four Fitch fields. I wonder how different things will be next spring at the new Cubs Wrigleyville West complex?
