Jorge in the House

By Tim Sheridan
February 15, 2013

Jorge Soler made his spring training debut today at Fitch Park. The 20 year old Cuban defector impressed his Manager, as well as those watching his first batting practice session. Soler has the swagger of a major leaguer, even though he’s not played above Class A ball in his short career in the states. He’s not competing for a spot on the Cubs 2013 roster, but rather getting a feel for a big league spring training. Soler is likely to start this year at Class-A Daytona. I shot video of his first HR in the Cubs organization last July, and put it in this video. It’s going to be very interesting to see how he does this spring as he gets a chance to play with major league vets.

Tomorrow all position players are due to report with the first official full-squad workout on Sunday.

As many of you know, for several years John Antonoff has done some outstanding photography work for Boys of Spring. We are lucky to have him helping out again this spring. Here’s a few shots John took today.
