The New Daniel Vogelbach

I’m doing something a little different, instead of a full blog, I’m posting some very recent video I shot of Cubs power hitting prospect Daniel Vogelbach during BP. I’ve had a lot of inquiries and questions about Voggy and his weight. So, better than telling you, I can show you his transformation. When the Cubs drafted him out of high school in 2011, Voggy was at one point pushing 3 bills, that’s 300 lbs! Since that time his body transformation has been nothing short of phenomenal. Right now Vogelbach is checking in at about 240 lbs.

Vogelbach has a very nice swing and great approach at the plate, as evidenced by his 2012 stat-line of 17 HR’s in 245 at-bats, while hitting .322 with a .410 OBP. He was playing at the Cubs AZ Rookie League and Short-Season Boise, so it’s still a long way to reach Wrigley. Some so-called experts have said that he is a first base/DH only prospect, but much of that talk is from a year or more ago when he had a different body. I can tell you, having seen him quite a bit over the past six months, he’s a much better athlete than he is given credit for. In fact I saw him taking grounders at third-base a week ago at Camp Bussy. Don’t read to much into that, as the Cubs are not wanting to move young players from one position to another in the early stage of their careers. However, the left-handed hitting Voggy, does throw right handed. Having just gotten out of his teens less than two months ago, he’s definitely a prospect to keep an eye on.

Someone mentioned that the word blueprint from yesterday’s blog is always written as one word; I had it as two separate words in the title. This was my attempt to make a Cubs related play on words with Cubs “Blue” print. I hyphenated it now, it’s still wrong but staying. I also did make the one other change he mentioned, which was an editing oversight on my part. Heck, I just figured it was abundantly clear to any readers that my grammar is always suspect. Seriously, I thank all of you who write in, or comment on the blog! It’s good to know that my mom isn’t the only one reading it.

This video is 45 seconds long.
